However, in his own series, the character is depicted as a casual smoker, preferring cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros.

logo. The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman, and I imagine those who haven’t seen the latter will be a bit lost.
It also captures the film’s aesthetic and somber tone nicely, although the show has many more moments of sly levity than the film
But I watched Batman a while ago, and the show did a great job of quickly reminding me where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic summary. As in Batman, Colin Farrell did a great job portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mobster «street guy»: rough, profane, volatile, and quick to violence; but also smart, cunning, and able to read people.
But it’s off to a great start so far
The character may have absolutely nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I doubt the show will give Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if Penguin’s scheming will be enough to sustain a full season.
