Description

the contest work: In Theme 1, one of the challenge is to find nature inspiration when Covid-19 restricts movements outside. Thinking out of the box, I find interesting patterns in vegetables (that I found in my kitchen) that I used to explore unusual but natural patterns. I used broccoli, corns, carrots etc. Then digitise the images and carefully placed filters to achieve the patterns. To explore the use of digital filters further, in the image ‘Micronature-3’, I drew a pattern of very small orchids in a garden background then enhanced it by means of digital filters to achieve a pattern that has multiple layers of unique details.

For Theme 2, this is a fun theme. For each pattern, I selected a singular subject, like a flower petal, a foliage or an orchid and played with various techniques, both manual drawings and digital illustrations, to create bold patterns with strong harmonious colours that gives a variety of moods, such as soft & sweet, feisty and energetic, confident and calm.
